FURIA bounce back with dominant performance
FURIA has had an uncharacteristically poor few weeks and IEM Cologne was turning out to be the same way after their opening round loss to Astralis where they failed to win a map. After poor showings in ESL Valencia and the Roobet Cup, it looked like Cologne could spell disaster for the Brazilians as they headed into the summer break. However, today would not be that day.
FURIA and Outsiders started out on the Russian's pick of Inferno, where the latter got off to a hot start by winning the opening pistol and following rounds. However, FURIA battled back bit by bit and managed to win their CT-side half 8-7. Outsiders started off strong on their CT-side by not just winning the pistol, but the first gun round, putting FURIA in a difficult position with their backs against the wall. With Outsiders holding a 12-8 lead and looking to have all the momentum, FURIA once again dug deep and were able to string together round after round and never let their foot off the gas en-route to a 16-13 victory.
The Brazilians now have everything going their way after a surprising map victory on Inferno. To continue their dominance over Outsiders they won their first pistol of the match as they started out on the T-side of Vertigo. Despite Outsiders jumping out to an early 5-2 lead, FURIA were not deterred. They proceeded to win the next five rounds to secure a 7-5 lead and would close out the half 8-7. As the Russians were forced onto the more uncomfortable T-side on Vertigo, they were not able to get anything going. Yuri "yuurih" Santos was a force to be reckoned with in the second half and beyond as he posted a 26-13 K/D and 110.4 ADR in the entire match as FURIA only dropped a single round on the defense.
FaZe Clan and Spirit face off later today to determine who will be playing FURIA in the lower bracket tomorrow at 06:30AM.
