SunPayus: "We were having a tough time one month ago"
Smiles, tears, laughter. All three could be seen and heard from the Movistar Riders team as they topped off their incredible run with a victory that secured the main stage of IEM Cologne. The seemingly impossible task was behind them and now it was a time of celebration for the Spaniards. With a huge smile across his face, Alvaro "SanPayus" Garcia caught up with Dust2.us' Liam "Slevin" Slevo to talk through what this win means to him.
After your crazy victory over Vitality, tell me, what does it mean to you guys?
It means a lot to us because it is our first big event with people in front of us so we are excited. We are just so happy.
You guys have taken down G2 and now Vitality. With NAVI next up, can the underdog story continue?
We are just going to try our best. We know that NAVI is the best team in the world right now and they play really well so we will just try our best and enjoy the moment. We want to beat them.
You have been in great form since winning Valencia in a confident fashion and continued it here. What does it mean to you, to finish the season on such a high?
It means so much to us because we were having a tough time one month ago so now we are really happy. We had too many talks now we are just enjoying the moment.
Now that you are heading to the arena, do you think the nerves could get to the team since it will be the biggest crowd you have played in front of?
I think that we won't have a lot of nerves. I think we will enjoy the moment. We always like to have fun with the people too so I think it will be really good.
While their berth in the LANXESS Arena is secure, SunPayus and co. will have the daunting task of facing NAVI in the upper-bracket final. Movistar Riders will be hoping to keep their momentum rolling against the second-ranked team in the world at 10:30AM today.
