FaZe edge out 00 Nation at IEM Cologne
00 Nation have been knocked down to the lower-bracket after succumbing to FaZe in two straight maps in their IEM Cologne opener. The Brazilians will now go up against Liquid tomorrow at 06:30AM in a must-win game if they're to stay alive in Germany.
The series kicked off on 00 Nation's pick of Ancient, with the Brazilians quickly raising eyebrows by jumping out to an early 5-3 lead on the T-side. This initial lead wasn't to last, however, as FaZe posted seven rounds in a row to head into the switch with a 10-5 scoreline in their favor.
A fully switched-on FaZe continued their onslaught once on the attack, effortlessly adding five rounds in a row to surge ahead and put themselves on map point. With 00 Nation looking surely down and out, the Brazilians suddenly had a massive revival of form, adding a staggering eight rounds on the trot to get FaZe sweating. Sadly, this comeback attempt would ultimately end up being for nothing as the European mix was able to snag the sole round they needed to clinch Ancient 16-13.
Heading to Inferno, FaZe's started their T-side firmly in the driver's seat with a 7-3 scoreline seeing the Brazilian's chances at equalizing the score slip further and further away. Fruitless efforts at getting into the game by Marcelo "coldzera" David's boys allowed FaZe to extend their lead even more to 11-4 by the end of the half.
Justifying their pick, FaZe doubled down once on the CT-side, overturning an opening three-round spree by 00 Nation with four of their own to reach map and match point. From here, it was simply a case of taking care of business for karrigan and co., with just a few Brazilian round wins being allowed before FaZe claimed Inferno 16-10.
All is not lost for 00 Nation, however, as they now have their do-or-die game versus Liquid to prepare for, with this matchup set to begin tomorrow at 06:30AM.
