InControl win Fragadelphia 16: Chicago
After a close affair in the grand final, Advanced side InControl have secured first-place at Fragadelphia 16: Chicago, claiming the grand prize of $5,500 and 8,000 Fragadelphia Points.
The second day of Fragadelphia 16: Chicago kicked off with the quarterfinals, missing some of the heavyweight teams such as Strife and Levitate that fell during the first day. The first quarterfinal games saw Kinship Black, featuring ChocoCheck's Anthony "CLASIA" Kearney, take down Fourth Quarter, while Marco "Pol0" Hernandez's Fragging for Jason overcame Omega after a tight series.
Elsewhere in the quarterfinals, InControl came back from an overwhelming defeat in the first map in order to beat Alex Rider, and Bradley "Slugy" Kohler's all aim no name took down Damian "droid" Boulware's RIP Kobe.
The first semifinal saw all aim no name match up against Fragging for Jason in what would be one of the more one-sided matches in the playoffs of the event.
Fragging for Jason's pick of Mirage was the first map of the series, where Pol0's squad got off to a decent start to the map by snagging the first pistol and the subsequent round. Unfortunately for Fragging for Jason, they would only manage to claim one more round for themselves during the first half, as all aim no name went on a dominant run, securing a 12-3 lead. While the first three rounds of the second half went the way of Fragging for Jason, all aim no name's lead was simply too much to overcome, as the latter squad marched onwards to a 16-6 victory.
Despite the second map of Nuke being all aim no name's pick, Fragging for Jason found themselves in a far more comfortable position throughout the first half of the map. Slugy's men secured yet another pistol round and the following two rounds, but this time they did not let their lead slip. Fragging for Jason remained in control during the first half, and while all aim no name managed to whittle the former squad's lead, they still finished with an 8-7 scoreline at the half. But, a switch seemed to flip for all aim no name in the second half, as they went on a nine-round tear to set aside Fragging for Jason, taking the map 16-8 and punching their ticket for the grand final.
The other semifinal match featured InControl against Kinship Black, starting on the former's map choice of Inferno. This map was a slugfest, with the first half being marred with streaky, back-and-forth rounds between the two squads. Ultimately, Kinship Black came out on top in the half, snatching a 9-6 lead heading into their T-side. The back-and-forth bloodbath continued into the second half, with neither team able to put together a massive lead. In the end, with Kinship Black already having the slight lead after the first half, the frequent trading of rounds worked out in their favor, as they stole away InControl's pick, 16-13.
Heading into Kinship Black's pick of Mirage, InControl shook off their narrow defeat on the first map as they got off to a flying start on the second, finishing the first half with a suffocating 13-2 lead, powered by an astounding 2.64 CT-side rating from Andrew "Andrew" Burrell. This lead proved to be simply too much for CLASIA's men to overcome, as InControl swiftly took the first three rounds of the second half, finishing the map with a 16-2 scoreline, taking the series to the decider of Dust 2.
In the same way that InControl composed themselves after Inferno, Kinship Black also managed to find it in themselves to recover after their devastating results on Mirage. Kinship Black got off to a comfortable start, claiming five of the first six rounds before InControl started to string rounds together. Although InControl started to piece things back together in the latter part of the half, Kinship Black still snagged themselves a 9-6 lead. This lead would be further bolstered by CLASIA and co. taking the pistol and the next two rounds, looking to be in a prime position to close out the series. But, it wasn't to be, as InControl finally found their footing, pulling off a comeback that saw them steal away the map 16-14, locking in their grand final spot.
The grand final saw InControl tussle with all aim no name for their chance to win a second Fragadelphia title. The first map, InControl's choice of Vertigo, showed that the squad meant business, as they thrashed all aim no name throughout the first half, setting themselves up with a 12-3 lead going into their CT-side. Khizar "MoMo" Rehman's troops only got one round in the second half before InControl were able to take the first map home with an impressive 16-4 win.
As the second map, all aim no name's choice of Nuke, started to play out it seemed like it was going to be a repeat of Vertigo, with InControl taking another commanding 12-3 lead at the end of the first half. all aim no name were determined to not be overrun, however, as they pulled off an astounding comeback, securing twelve rounds of their own in the second half. Although InControl snuck enough rounds to secure overtime, all aim no name's momentum was simply too much, as McKinley "Cyrix" Hollison and co. swept InControl in overtime, closing the map 19-15 to bring the series to a third map.
all aim no name kept their momentum going heading into the decider of Mirage, capturing six of the first seven rounds of the map. Despite their unbelievable choke in the second map, and the comfortable lead their opponents were already building, InControl found it in themselves to answer back, evening out the scoreline 6-6 and eventually taking control of the half, finishing it with an 8-7 lead. A pistol round win for InControl kickstarted a dominant second half for them, as they marched on to a 14-7 lead before all aim no name could even muster a round in response. Slugy's men were unable to answer with a series of rounds until InControl had already reached series point, with InControl finally finishing the map and series with a score of 16-11.
