FURIA secure Major spot; Envy move to third-place playoff
The final best-of-three at the IEM Katowice Minor has concluded, and Brazilian underdogs FURIA have claimed their ticket to the Major after defeating Envy in a decisive 2-0 victory.
The first map was an absolute rout, with the Finn "karrigan" Andersen-led squad of Envy only managing one round against the unbreakable CT defense of FURIA on Overpass. Envy did manage to win their CT side pistol, however that comeback was short-lived once FURIA was able to claim an anti-eco victory to put themselves on match point. During this trouncing, 19-year old Yuri "yuurih" Santos managed to claim a 1.91 rating, and a massive 123.1 ADR, which was integral in smothering Envy to take the lead in the series.
Moving onto Cache, Envy were able to shake off the rust and start the map in a confident fashion, ending their T half with a slight 9-6 lead. During this half karrigan impressed with an AWP 3k on a B site post-plant defense, helping Envy to claim their fourth round.
Looking confident going into their CT side, Envy's comeback into the series was short-lived, despite being able to win the opening pistol round and ensuing follow-up round. These would be the last rounds Envy got as FURIA began a monster run of ten rounds to secure the 2-0 victory and their spot in the New Challengers stage.
Unlike previous Minors, Envy will not be going home, instead they now move on to the Minors Playoff, where they are set to fight against the third-place teams from the other Minors while attempting to claim one of two spots. They are set to face off against the CIS team Winstrike at 7:10 EST tomorrow. Should they win, they will be facing off against the winner of ViCi vs. North, with the winner of that series moving on to the New Challengers stage.
