ECS Season 6 Final Night: Four teams who aren't Cloud9 aim for LAN spots
The final night dawns on ECS, and there are four teams remaining with a shout at joining NRG at the ECS Season 6 Finals at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas between November 22nd-25th. After last night's results, that team cannot be Cloud9.
Cloud9 dropping out of the top five is down to one result - MIBR's 2-0 victory over compLexity last night. This means that the team no longer has enough points to remain in the playoff race, and without any more matches to play they are firmly out of the running.
With that said, there are currently four teams remaining with a shot at qualifying for the ECS Season 6 Finals; Renegades, MIBR, Liquid and compLexity. The easiest team to explain their route to the finals is Liquid, who have played all their matches. For them to reach Arlington, they need compLexity to not win 2-0. Simple as that.
Renegades and MIBR are equally simple to explain, with both requiring a single map win to completely confirm their position. MIBR will also be able to confirm their attendance before they play if Renegades secure at least one map win.
On the other hand, compLexity's route will require them to secure a 2-0 win over Renegades to make it to Arlington. If that happens, Renegades could still potentially make it to the finals, if Rogue does them a favor and secures a 2-0 win over MIBR. This is due to the Australian team having a superior head-to-head record over the Brazilians.
A nightmare scenario could be set to unfold if all four teams end the regular season with the same record, which would leave one of them left out in the cold on the basis of tiebreakers.
The two matches set to take place tonight are:
Matchup | Date | Time |
compLexity vs. Renegades | November 8th | 6:00 PM EDT |
MIBR vs. Rogue | November 8th | 8:00 PM EDT |
The current table going into the final night of ECS is below:
