WorldGaming stealthily announce new venue for WESG USA Finals
The finals venue for WESG USA has been changed from the Santa Anita Park, California, to Huntington Beach, California. The reason for the change has not been announced, with the organization announcing the venue without drawing any attention to the previous location.
WorldGaming had been advertising Santa Anita Park as the venue as late as November 1st, with the new location first being mentioned on November 3rd. The new venue is the home of ULTIMATE Media Ventures, who are also the merchandising partner for eUnited.
The change seems to be an incredibly last minute job, with the company only starting to look for observers yesterday. A later tweet put out a general call for "paid volunteers" for the event on the "Friday & Saturday" which would indicate a potential schedule change. However, as of publication, the schedule currently remains the same on the WorldGaming website, which includes Sunday as a day for the finals. The organization also note that tickets are available for the event, however clicking through to the Eventbrite link proves otherwise, with nothing available. Evidently, their limited stocks have run out.
Certain competitors are not a fan of this decision, and the late notice of the change, with the most scathing takedown coming from Singularity's coach Jared "MAC-1" Schneider, revealing that the organizers are refusing to pay for any of his expenses, including a bus ticket at double the cost.
WESG USA Finals are set to kick off on Friday, November 9th, with both the Co-Ed and Women's tournaments at Ultimate Media Ventures, 15241 Transistor Lane, Huntington Beach, California. Commentary talent for the event is yet to be announced. $38,000 are on offer for each, with the top placing team headed to the WESG 2018 Finals in Chongqinq, China, in March 2019.
