FACEIT release details of ECS Season 6, Challenger Cup
FACEIT have announced the dates for the upcoming ECS Season 6, including the method of qualification. The league itself is set to be run between October 3rd and November 8th, with the tried and tested Challenger Cup format set to return.
Qualification for the next season of ECS will begin with two open qualifiers, taking the form of single-elimination tournaments, which will be best-of-one until the quarterfinal stage, with the quarterfinal and semifinal being best-of-three. The first commences tomorrow, September 17th, and will run until September 20th. The second will take place between September 22nd and 23rd. Registration for each qualifier closes one hour before the scheduled start, 9pm EDT.
The top two teams from each open qualifier will head to the Challenger Cup, set to take place between September 27th and 30th, which will be a double-elimination tournament featuring eight teams, four of which will be invited teams. Originally, two of these invites would come straight from the relegated teams of the previous ECS season, which are compLexity and OpTic, however due to OpTic returning to Europe their place in the Challenger Cup has been vacated.
Potential teams to receive the three invites include MIBR, Ghost, and Swole Patrol. Due to how the league is structured, SK would retain their spot. Dust2.us has learned that the organization intends to field a roster for the upcoming season of ESL Pro League, and therefore presumably ECS as well.
Links and details for the open qualifiers are as follows:
- Open Qualifier #1 - September 17th-20th
- Open Qualifier #2 - September 22nd-23rd
These have been added to the Dust2.us Calendar, and from there you can see that the second ECS qualifier will clash with the WESG qualifiers this weekend, not just the FACEIT-organized Major. The Challenger Cup will also suffer from a clash, with it taking place at the same time as ESL One New York, where compLexity are competing in the MSI MGA.
