MIBR destroy G2, Liquid endure rollercoaster ride against Astralis to playoffs

It's a clean sweep of wins for North America today, with both playoff teams coming from the region.

The final two North American games of round three have just concluded, and they were two fairly different matches. MIBR were up against the Frenchmen of G2, whereas Liquid had a familiar match against Astralis for a playoff spot.

MIBR were in control from start to finish on Inferno. From the CT-side pistol at the start, to the eight round run in the middle of the first half to the 12-3 lead, there was no stopping them. Even an eco round win for G2 in the second half after the pistol round couldn't halt MIBR's advance, overturning the loss immediately afterwards as they went for a 16-4 win. Fernando "fer" Alvarenga was key, hitting up a 106.8 ADR throughout.

High-Fives for the MIBR boys

The next game was a traditional Inferno rollercoaster. Liquid came out firing in the first half on their T-side, taking the first nine rounds in a row, before Astralis picked up two rounds. Liquid then went out and finished the half with the remaining rounds, for a 13-2 lead at the break. The second half was a mirror image, as Astralis went out shooting heads and taking the first eleven rounds without response. Liquid came back in the following two rounds, to claim match point, but the Danes weren't out and forced overtime at 15-15.

The overtime was a simple clean-up job for Liquid, starting off with three good CT-holds, before finishing it up with a simple site take in the second part for a 19-15 win. Keith "NAF" Markovic was the key man for his team, taking a 1.31 rating.

These results see MIBR go 2-1, meaning they require just one more win tomorrow, and Liquid are the second 3-0 team and are headed to the playoffs next week. There is one more game after Liquid's win over Astralis, the battle of Europe between FaZe and mousesports, so the group draw will be coming later.
