Cloud9 see HellRaisers slip away, compLexity battle past G2
The first two North American matches in the second round of the Major saw Cloud9 come up against HellRaisers, and compLexity were lined up to take on G2.
The first North American match saw Cloud9 face HellRaisers on Overpass. It was HellRaisers' T-side who was the stronger of the first half as they secured ten rounds in the first half of the game, even after Cloud9 claimed the pistol round. The second half was a much better story for the American cored-team, taking the first six rounds to go back in front, not before HellRaisers kept themselves in it. Cloud9 took themselves close to match point, before some less than ideal B-rushes put HellRaisers there instead.
HellRaisers nearly closed it out from there, but Timothy "autimatic" Ta picked up a 1v2 clutch to force overtime. The first round of the overtime wasn't a good start, as HellRaisers narrowly won it as the clock ticked down, and they kept this up for the remainder to take a 19-16 win. Martin "STYKO" Styk's 32 kills were unable to win it for Cloud9 this time.
compLexity had a wild ride in their second match against G2. For the first time in the tournament they didn't play Inferno, as they faced the Frenchmen on Cache. This decision seemed to go well as compLexity went 8-0 up in the first half, only dropping two rounds at the end of that streak, before going for a five round run to the halftime for a 13-2 lead. The second half looked more promising for G2, as they took their first six rounds of their T-side unanswered, and kept on closing down the lead round by round.
But compLexity managed to close it out by the end, taking the final two rounds for a 16-11 win. Richard "shox" Papillon's clutch performances were no match for Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan's scoreboard leading performances.
These results mean Cloud9 goes 0-2, and will be in sudden death for the rest of the tournament, and compLexity secure a 2-0 record, meaning they just need one more win to head to the playoffs next weekend here in London. The next game at the Major will be Liquid taking on NiP in the next 1-0 match.
