Ghost fall to NiP over three maps in Stockholm
The Group B winners' match at DreamHack Stockholm saw the North American surprises of Ghost take on the Swedish legends of NiP. The best-of-three was set to be fought on Inferno, Train and Nuke.
Inferno commenced with a strong showing for Ghost, securing the first nine rounds while losing just one. Matthew "Wardell" Bowman was out leading the charge for his team, having secured a 1.51 rating on the map. The Canadian-majority side went in 10-5 up at the half, leaving them in a strong position to take on the Swedish side. Having lost the pistol round at the start of the second half, Wardell secured a 1v2 clutch to get them back in the game and push on for a 16-11 win.
Train followed and it was a similar strong start for Ghost, albeit having to take a comeback after losing the pistol round. From there the CT-side flourished and secured Joshua "steel" Nissan's team went in at the break a strong 10-5 up. However, Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg was once again performing at his best and saw NiP close Ghost out of the game, securing a comeback for a 16-12 win to even the series.
Nuke was the final map and although some thought it would be a good map for Ghost, it was anything but. An explosive nine round start for the Swedish team put them in a good position on the map, one where once again f0rest was a big performer. The North Americans were only able to take two rounds in the first half, with NiP finishing their T-side 13-2 up. The second half looked to be a change of fortunes, with Ghost taking the pistol round, however NiP secured their three required rounds shortly after for a 16-6 win.
The result sends NiP to the playoffs on Saturday, meanwhile Ghost will return to the servers tomorrow morning at 9am EDT for a rematch against Na`Vi. MIBR play their Group D winners' match later today, at 1pm EDT.
