eUnited qualify for IEM Chicago over Cloud9
eUnited have defeated Cloud9 to qualify for IEM Chicago, winning the best of five 3-2 (Default, 16-13 Mirage, 16-6 Overpass, 13-16 Cache, 22-19 Train). This will be the first $250K+ event for the eUnited players.
Before the final however, eUnited had to play Swole Patrol in the consolidation final. The first map Train resulted in an enormous 14-1 lead for eUnited on the CT side. Swole Patrol had a small semblance of a comeback, but Michael "dapr" Gulino propelled his team to close out the map 16-6.
Inferno was a much closer affair, with Swole Patrol securing a 6-0 lead initially. eUnited fought back, and managed to get a 6-9 scoreline at the half's end. Swole Patrol managed to grind out a good few rounds, but the eUnited defense was too strong, and Will "dazzLe" Loafman picked up 24 kills to help his team to close out the map 16-13 and the series 2-0.
After Cloud9 received a map advantage due to coming from the upper bracket, the first map of play in the grand final was Mirage. Cloud9 initially held a 5-0 lead on the map, but eUnited answered with their own five rounds to tie it up. C9 ended up pulling away at the end though for a 9-6 lead. eUnited put up a superb Terrorist side however, and despite the valiant efforts of Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham and Maikil "Golden" Selim, Cloud9 dropped Mirage 13-16.
The second map of play was dominant for the eUnited side, with Cloud9 only managing a meager three rounds in the first half. Once again it was dapr to show up for his team, as eUnited won 4/7 rounds in the second half to secure Overpass 16-6.
Cache was an extremely back and forth affair, as after an eUnited 4-0 lead, the teams traded rounds for an eventual 8-7 half for the new Pro League side. However, Cloud9 had the better Terrorist side, and with Martin "STYKO" Styk stepping up for his side, the international team took the map 16-13.
The last map Train was a fitting way to end the series, going right down to the wire. eUnited gained a 6-1 lead on the T side, but lost most of it by the end of the half - ending with an 8-7 score. Cloud9 were the first to take match point, but eUnited fought back to secure overtime. Mostly by the hands of Skyler "Relyks" Weaver, eUnited battled through two overtimes to eventually take the map 22-19 and the series 3-2.
eUnited have now secured a spot at IEM Chicago, and are the 14th team confirmed. In November, they will travel to Illinois and fight against the likes of Astralis, FaZe, and Na`Vi to prove their worth.
