Renegades overpower eUnited to wrap up StarSeries quarterfinals
The first round of matches for the Starseries i-League Season 5 Closed Qualifiers came to a close yesterday, with Renegades besting eUnited in two clean maps, advancing them into the semifinals.
Their series began with a solid six consecutive rounds for Renegades on their CT-side of Inferno, though their economic control began slipping away from them shortly after, as eUnited wittled away at their defense until the half reached a 10-5 scoreline for the Australians.
The latter portion of the match displayed a much more composed eUnited, one that led them to eventually taking the round lead 14-13. Unfortunately the upcoming team were unable to close things out, and Renegades stole away the last three rounds they needed, ending Inferno 16-14.
Cache began with an early lead for eUnited after claiming the pistol and subsequent round that followed, but an early bomb plant netted Renegades enough economy to force-buy in round three and take away the American's momentum. They went on to convert that round into five more before eUnited bunkered down and won out what remained in the half, securing them a 9-6 lead.
Once on their Terrorist side, eUnited fell apart. Renegades claimed all but one round in the second half until their eventual victory, 16-10.
The remaining matches in the Closed Qualifier are slated to wrap up later today, with Renegades facing off against compLexity and NRG set to take on Luminosity in the semifinal matches. The winners of each match will then meet in the Finals to decide who will head to Hong Kong at the main event.
The action will commence at 3 PM EDT.
Despite the disappointment against Renegades, eUnited did manage to get two huge wins against Liquid earlier in the day in ECS, which will go a long way towards keeping their hopes of staying in the league alive.
