Liquid take down Renegades, go 1-1
The final set of 0-1 games of today would include Renegades taking on Liquid, with both teams looking for a win to take an advantage tomorrow. The two teams were set to face off on Train, Cache and Mirage.
Train saw Liquid begin the match with the pistol round on their CT-side, followed up with the next two anti-eco rounds. But the Australian-ish side weren't letting the Americans to race ahead, instead taking a lead themselves. Karlo "USTILO" Pivac paved the way for his team to go ahead through a number of multi-kill rounds for five unanswered rounds.
But Liquid weren't having much more of it, instantly taking three rounds to go back ahead once again, with Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski starting to bring the pain on to Renegades. Although the Australian side answered back with an equalizing round, Liquid went to the end of the half undefeated, with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken taking three kills in the final round to take a 9-6 lead.
The second half saw Liquid continue their dominance, starting with the T-side pistol round and following on with the two anti-ecos and the three rounds afterwards, where Keith "NAF" Markovic secured a 1vs2, and a 4k, to put his new team on match point. Liquid were looking to close the game out quickly.
But Renegades wanted to go for the overtime. For the next six rounds, Renegades prevented Liquid from closing the game off, with Aaron "AZR" Ward proving key in a strong number of these rounds. But it was Nick "nitr0" Cannella to take four kills to end the map 16-12 in Liquid's favor.
Cache was up next, and it was Renegades to start the game off with the pistol and anti-eco rounds on their T-side. The Australian side managed to push on and dominantly take a lead in the first half, helped along by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad's 4k, completely blocking Liquid's access to a round.
The Americans' finally managed to secure two rounds, but Noah "Nifty" Francis and USTILO instantly blocked their attempts to start a four round run. Although Liquid secured the final two rounds of the half, thanks to EliGE and Twistzz taking a 3k in each round, they were still 11-4 down.
The second half looked to start off bad for Liquid, with Renegades securing the pistol round for their CT-side. But Liquid, with nothing more than some improved pistols, forced their way back into the game for some time, taking the next three rounds to keep it close.
But from there the Renegades proved too strong for Liquid, taking the final four rounds of the game, helped along by an extremely strong performance from USTILO, to take Cache 16-7.
Cache began with Renegades securing the pistol round, thanks to AZR taking four, and anti-ecos on their T-side to start off their performance strong. But from there Liquid instantly answered back and evened the game up, thanks to Lucas "steel" Lopes securing three kills for Liquid to keep Renegades from going too far ahead.
But it was Liquid to go miles ahead in the first half, securing twelve rounds in a row in a dominant fashion. Even though Renegades took it close a couple rounds it was Liquid, and specifically EliGE and NAF, who responded to prevent Renegades from going back in for a 12-3 halftime lead.
The second half started as Renegades needed it to, taking the pistol round and two following anti-ecos. But Liquid wanted to end the game as quickly as possible, treating the second half just like the first, with Nick "nitr0" Cannella securing four kills to start the run once again. From there Renegades couldn't get back in, with Liquid taking the map 16-6.
This result sees Liquid move to the 1-1 bracket tomorrow, and sends Renegades down for a 0-2 match. Next up at the StarSeries i-League Season 4 finals will be SK taking on mousesports.
