RBG, Triumph, ChocoCheck, and Strife through to day two of ESEA Fall Cash Cup 5
With the usual Cash Cup suspects otherwise occupied with iBUYPOWER Mythic Masters Winter 2021, a number of Premier sides are seeking to fill the void and cash out on the absence of teams like Extra Salt, Bad News Bears, and Party Astronauts. RBG, Triumph, ChocoCheck, and Strife successfully traversed the day one bracket and are the four remaining semifinalists for the latest iteration of the ESEA Cash Cup series.
RBG and ATK were able to join in on the fun after being eliminated from iBUYPOWER Mythic Masters in the group stages, but there were plenty of other Premier sides gunning to keep them from double-dipping for the weekend. Springroll fell in their first match to For funs on Inferno, while Limitless suffered the same fate against Green Tea Party. Big Chillin were dealt a thirty-round loss by Strife and the rest of the Premier contingent made it through to within one match of day two.
RBG are in prime position to end their streak of runner-up finishes in Cash Cup play following a decisive win over Detonate to punch a ticket to the Sunday semifinals. An 8-7 halftime deficit was quickly erased as RBG allowed Detonate just one round on their T-side. David "Delta9" Shafer led all players with 26 kills in the loss for Detonate.
The lone Canadian in the server, David "J0LZ" Jolin, led all players with 26 frags as Strife advanced to the second day of an ESEA Cash Cup event for the first time. If they are able to win one match today their minimum winnings will double that which RBG and ATK were awarded for their last place finish in iBUYPOWER Mythic Masters.
Despite a server-leading, 28-kill effort from stand-in AWPer Austin "Cooper" Abadir, ATK fell on the final hurdle and Triumph defeated their former sniper to advance to the second day of Cash Cup play. The funny deer team stormed to victory with a dominant 11-2 second-half T-side and was led by Jeff "RZU" Ngo with 26 frags.
Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott didn't even need the Negev to troll Green Tea Party. The new face on ChocoCheck finished with 31 kills, more than double the frag counts of Brian "Brian2K" Ladron De Guevara and "Penguin", who co-led Green Tea Party with 15 kills apiece.
Today's semifinal matches are:
RBG | vs. Strife |
Triumph | vs. ChocoCheck |
Both best-of-three series will begin at 4PM EST.
