Official: NRG add nitr0

NRG has added NA veteran Nick "nitr0" Cannella to their ranks, a big-ticket move that restates NRG's commitment to a strong domestic team. nitr0 will take over the leadership duties from current IGL Colby "Walco" Walsh as the Canadian has been released from the team.

This move comes as NRG has signed a handful of big names in North America, including Timothy "autimatic" Ta and Josh "oSee" Ohm, but they have yet to break through to the top of regional competition.

A smattering of strong showings, such as victories at Ace North American Masters Fall 2024 and David's Cup and a second-place finish at the NA Revival Cup 2024, show strong but inconsistent form for NRG. The team has been unable to replicate the results in crucial qualifiers to European events, bar BLAST Fall Showdown.

Some shortfalls include 5-6th at ESL Challenger League North America Season 47 and Open Qualifier eliminations for the Esports World Cup 2024 and ESL Challenger Jönköping. With such a strong constellation of North American talents on the team, it's no surprise that the organization has high expectations for the team and will make the changes they deem necessary to achieve those expectations.

nitr0 most recently played for M80's VALORANT squad, IGLing for the Challengers League team since January. M80 benched nitr0 last month following mediocre results, which put them in the middle of the pack of the cutthroat competition.

Prior to M80, nitr0 made his first return to Counter-Strike with Team Liquid, helping the North American team stay at the top of the competition despite time away in Riot Games' tactical FPS. With some of America's top talent on NRG, all eyes will be on the team to finally make those top-level placements and receive some time in Europe to practice against the best in the world.
