Bad News Bears and RBG reach ESEA Summer Cash Cup 2 semis
Another iteration of ESEA's Cash Cup series got underway yesterday, with 36 teams signing up for a shot at the $9,000 grand prize.
After an abbreviated first round where only two matches were played, the second round saw several notable results occur, including HeadShotKings being bested by Main/Advanced mix PUGGERSNOTPOGGERS on Nuke and Verum falling to Bobby "stamina" Eitrem's Hall of Fame mix 16-10 on Mirage. Additionally, Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies, a mix featuring the core of Pryde, defeated YeniCherry 16-13 on Nuke, and Villainous received a forfeit win over fellow Advanced side Valkyrie.
In the next round of play, Devin "AtomiK" Ferrell's Green Tea Party defeated Villainous, PUGGERSNOTPOGGERS were edged out 16-13 by Triton, and Eddie "hydrik" Olsen went toe-to-toe with David "cynic" Polster in a narrow 16-14 victory for Triumph.
Round four of the bracket saw Bad News Bears, RBG, and Triumph all handily dispatch Green Tea Party, Counter Nature, and Hall of Fame, respectively. Party Astronauts had a tougher time with Triton, though ultimately took a 16-11 victory over the 12-3 Advanced team.
In the final round of play before the invited teams entered the bracket, Michael "Swisher" Schmid helped power Bad News Bears over Party Astronauts 16-13 on Mirage. Jonathan "djay" Dallal was the top-rated player for the losing side, though Ian "motm" Hardy secured one more kill than the Canadian.
RBG (playing as "RBG Impact" due to featuring Third Impact members Brennan "grape" Greer and Calvin "becker" Becker in place of Anthony "CLASIA" Kearney and Troy "ara" Pollock) had relatively little trouble in their matchup against Triumph, securing an 11-4 lead on the back of a strong Terrorist side on Inferno.
Triumph would win the opening three rounds of their own offensive side, but then RBG closed out the map with five rounds in a row. Connor "chop" Sullivan was the top-rated player for RBG, while new addition Omar "3ARKOOZ" Elyyan earned the honors for Triumph.
ESEA Summer Cash Cup 2 will continue today at 4PM EDT, with RBG taking on GODSENT, and Bad News Bears drawn against Recon 5. The Brazilians are looking for their second ESEA Cash Cup title, while a Bad News Bears victory would be their fifth in the series.
