Counter-Strike is the 4th most played PC game of 2023
According to a new report by Newzoo, Counter-Strike had the fourth highest MAU, or monthly average users, of any PC game in 2023, only losing out in the PC landscape to Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft (excluding India and China).
The report dives into further topics, showing that despite playtime decreasing as the COVID-19 pandemic drift further and further behind in the rear-view mirror, gamers are spending more time in older games.
Games over six years old now account for over 60% of play-time, with the top ten PC games by MAU averaging 9.6 years of age. The most popular Xbox and PlayStation games also grow older by the year, with their top ten games averaging over seven years old apiece.
Counter-Strike is one of the few PC games on the list without a console port, with the top three, Fornite, Roblox, and Minecraft, all available on PC, Xbox, and Playstation, with Roblox being the only one missing from Nintendo's Switch.
When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was first developed by Valve, it was developed to be a console port, but as time went on, Valve focused on the PC version, ceasing updates for the console version over a decade ago.
