paiN first team to upset at the CS2 Major
paiN entered the Major this morning with the hope of becoming the team to provide the first seeding upset at the event. It would be a tough task as Apeks has the veteran experience, youth, and a European environment, which makes them much more of a daunting opponent. But for paiN, they were prepared for the task.
The match got off on a weird foot as Apeks made the curious decision to allow paiN to ban maps first. Usually, the higher seed would ban the first two maps as they would then be allowed to select the final map for the BO1. paiN were able to decide on Vertigo where they would start on the much harder T-side.
paiN lost the opening pistol and subsequent rounds, but each time they penetrated the site and planted the bomb. It was a continued effort for paiN as they eventually turned the tide and suddenly found themselves clawing back a 0-4 deficit. paiN would deliver killing blow after killing blow as Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt as the Brazilians only lost further round in the half to go up 7-5.
The second half was a lot closer for paiN as it got too close for comfort. The Brazilians secured the pistol and that would get them to nine rounds, but Apeks came back to bring it within one. Two more close-round wins later, and paiN got themselves to 11 rounds and was hoping to close it out. Apeks did their best, but paiN secured the final round to become the first team to upset at the PGL Copenhagen Major as they took Vertigo 13-8.
paiN will find out their next opponent after all matches have been played in this round.
