Report: Wildcard set to make multiple changes post-RMR
According to multiple sources close to the team, Dust2.us understands that Wildcard is set to once again overhaul their roster, with it being understood that both Gage "Infinite" Green and Matt "Warden" Dickens are out of the lineup while potential additional changes are being explored.
Infinite was notably absent in Wildcard's ESL Challenger League Season 47 debut against M80 last night, with Ian "motm" Hardy filling in for the player.
The changes to Wildcard's composition comes as the organization approaches its one-year anniversary in Counter-Strike following their acquisition of Detonate's roster in late April 2023. Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan is the sole remaining player from that initial signing. Wildcard have largely been on an upward trajectory, with the team currently ranked fifth on Dust2.us' Power Ranking.
Despite this success, the organization is likely interested in pursuing changes due to a lack of LAN and international appearances by the team. In the four months since forming this new lineup, Wildcard have narrowly missed out on qualifying to ESL Challenger Atlanta, IEM Chengdu, the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, and IEM Dallas. These failures are especially cutting as Wildcard have often been eliminated by M80, the team's domestic rival with whom they have a competitive and sometimes incendiary relationship.
While the team did qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR, their run was largely uneventful, with the team besting BESTIA but ultimately sent packing after losses to RED Canids and M80 — with the latter loss being extra painful as M80 narrowly won while fielding their coach, Rory "dephh" Jackson, as the team's IGL.
Infinite's departure will see the team's main entry fragger leave the lineup. As the role is very much a "feast or famine" state of affairs, it may explain why Wildcard are looking to upgrade, especially as Infinite is traditionally a lurker.
As for Warden, Dust2.us understands that Warden's departure is in part linked to his unprofessional outburst at the RMR, which saw the 38-year-old veteran coach throw water at M80's Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa after a heated loss to the latter team. While not the sole reason for Warden's departure, the incident was undoubtedly a sour end to Wildcard's first LAN tournament.
Wildcard reportedly consists of the following at this time:
-
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz
-
Josh "JBa" Barutt
-
Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan
-
Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek
-
João "horvy" Horvath (Coach)
Dust2.us reached out to Infinite and Wildcard for comment. While Wildcard did not respond to our request ahead of publication, Infinite confirmed that he is no longer playing with the team, however nothing has been made official with Wildcard management.
