Positive Vibes Only and Kinship headed to IEM New York Closed Qualifier
The final day of the open qualifiers for IEM New York has come to a close, with Positive Vibes Only and Kinship decisively smashing through the final hurdle and reaching the Closed Qualifier.
Notable teams that bowed out prior to the final eight included Eclipse and Eros, who both forfeited their initial matches, the latter due to a registration issue. Infinity were eliminated in their second match following an overtime affair with Scrub Garden. A smattering of ex-MDL players playing under the banner ETHEREAL lost their first round matchup to Hc and Supernova lost out to ImPerium in the round of sixteen.
In the quarterfinals, Positive Vibes Only faced a worthy adversary in Big Chillin, but took care of business with a full roster that didn't feature their coach (unlike the first qualifier). Rebirth Orange were able to dispatch Water Articulate AF on Inferno with a solid 16-9 scoreline. Kinship absolutely dismantled ex-Warriors International on Mirage, 16-2, while the closest of the four matches saw ImPerium defeat Villianous 16-12 on Train.
Wesley "viz" Harris and David "Sneaky" Polster took turns top fragging for Positive Vibes Only in a series that saw Rebirth Orange only manage ten rounds between the two maps. Sneaky finished the series with a server-leading 41 kills, while Dave "seziwana" Schrage led Rebirth Orange with 26 frags in the losing effort.
Kyle "Wolffe" Greenfield and Koby "kobruh" Higgs were the one-two punch for Kinship, as the wolfpack shredded through ImPerium dealing them a loss in the first of their two best-of-three series today. The duo both finished with 40 frags, while ImPerium's Ian "heretic" Carfora topped the scoreboard for his team with 35 in the series.
The teams participating in the IEM New York Closed Qualifier will be:
Ze Pug Godz | oNe |
New England Whalers | Yeah |
RBG | Rebirth Black |
Positive Vibes Only | Kinship |
The Closed Qualifier action will kick off later today at 6PM EDT, and will see four of these eight teams advance to the North American iteration of IEM New York.
