yay competing in first CS event in 3+ years
Three years after leaving Counter-Strike to compete in VALORANT, Jacob "yay" Whiteaker has made his return to the title, albeit temporarily, under quite unusual circumstances. After retiring to pursue a career in VALORANT, yay rapidly grew to become of the game's top players, most notably finding success on OpTic and Envy, helping those squads to secure a spot as one of the region's best teams. However, most recently, yay made headlines for leaving North America entirely, decamping to Asia to join Singaporean organization Bleed in the VCT Pacific League.
However, while yay is currently in Singapore with his new teammates, there isn't much for the star to do, as VALORANT is currently in their off-season, with little for Bleed to do until events start picking up again in December. As such, when new TO EFLARE announced a $100k event for Southeast Asian teams, yay's teammates were quick to get an invite from EFLARE. Initially, yay was not going to play, however when Marcus "nephh" Tan had to drop out for an unspecified reason, yay was called upon to help Old Goats in CS2.
Alongside yay is another familiar CS face in the form of Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninić. Outside of his time in NA with NRG and Envy, LEGIJA is most known for his years as a player and coach for BIG. LEGIJA is now the coach for Bleed and is another import for the ambitious Singaporean organization. Alongside yay and LEGIJA are yay are all players with some level of CS experience, including: Vietnamese player Ngô "crazyguy" Công Anh, Jorell "Retla" Teo, and Derrick "Deryeon" Yee.
The Old Goats' run in EFLARE has thus far seen them receive a forfeit win against Vietnamese squad ICARUS before losing to a mixteam, Ongeh Warriors, consisting largely of NKT players 13-8 on Inferno. The team are now in the lower bracket and will be awaiting their next match against Vietnamese squad EZ at 03:00AM tomorrow.
