Ducky win Coupe Québécoise Season 1 in upset win over Miracle
Last weekend, the final of the first season of Quebec's CS2 league, the Coupe Québécoise, concluded after two months of online play and a day of LAN play, seeing Ducky pull off an underdog run to best Miracle in the finals and take the winner-takes-all $1,087 prize. For context, Miracle were heavy favorites for this event as they consisted of many of Quebec's top-FPS players, including David "J0LZ" Jolin, Yannick "KOLER" Blanchette, and Mathieu "INCREDIBLE" Bergeron, all tenured players in both CS and VALORANT.
The six-team group stage ended up being something of a non-event, with four teams in the league, Able, Miracle, Ducky, and Virtual, being far-and-away better than the other two teams in attendance. While the four dominant squads each claimed at least four wins over the course of the regular season, Alpha1 and Neons' sole wins were forfeits against each other.
As such, the event didn't start heating up until playoffs, where Miracle secured a 13-3 win over Able on Inferno while Ducky scraped past Virtual in a 13-11 win on Nuke. Therefore, in the online upper bracket semifinals Miracle and Ducky faced for the first time in playoffs, with Miracle ultimately prevailing 16-14 in an overtime win on Nuke.
Heading into the Saturday LAN at Théâtre de la Providence, Ducky managed to take down Able in a close 2-0 win (13-11 on Inferno, 13-8 on Nuke) to force a rematch against Miracle. Keeping in mind Miracle 2-1 record against Ducky thus far in the league, the latter team surprised by taking map one, Anubis, 13-8 before Miracle answered back with a 13-4 win on Inferno. With the series tied up and the whole prizepool on the line, Ducky rallied and played a dominant Nuke of their own to win the map 13-5 and secure first place at the event.
Top four at Coupe Québécoise Season 1 was:
1st: Ducky (kicking, Jord, Jojo, BiNoX, Jay) - $1,087
2nd: Miracle (KOLER, J0LZ, Melio, YuZ, INCREDIBLE)
