RAIJIN smite TGS at BashFest
BashFest 2020 played out over the weekend, ultimately seeing RAIJIN sweep Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen and TGS in the grand final. The small LAN event in Burnaby, Canada featured a $7,556 prize pool split between the top two teams.
RAIJIN actually lost 2-1 to TGS in the second round of the upper bracket, leaving the two sides with very different paths to the grand final. TGS advanced to the upper finals where they defeated Gaming Science 2-0 to move on to the grand final almost immediately.
Conversely, RAIJIN had to craft a successful lower bracket run to storm back into that grand final. In the process, they netted wins over ONLINERS, Ocean's Fan Club, and finally Gaming Science.
In the grand final, RAIJIN put up eight rounds on their first half T-side and then held TGS to just three rounds in the second half to jump out to a 1-0 series lead, in large part thanks to Filip "Feedalee" Mitevski and Yun "Freinzy" Kang.
It seemed like TGS would fare a bit better on Dust2, as they jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead. However, they fell apart on the latter part of their CT-side, allowing RAIJIN to trim the deficit to just 8-7 at the half. The second half mirrored the first, with RAIJIN starting out hot, taking six of seven rounds to bring the score to 13-9.
TGS flipped the script once more and brought the map back to 14-14, but it was not enough in the end as RAIJIN converted two retakes in a row to win the map and the series. Jerk once again had a strong performance for TGS, but his server-leading 29 kills were inconsequential in the end.
The final results of BashFest 2020 are:
1. RAIJIN (conman, Feedalee, Freinzy, Grave, Input) - $3,778
2. TGS (emins, Jerk, leak, mxj, SEMPHIS) - $1,889
3. Gaming Science
4. Ocean's Fan Club
