Riot Squad part ways with FNS
Ahead of their WINNERS League Season 3 semifinals match against INTZ, Riot Squad have announced the departure of IGL Pujan "FNS" Mehta.
The removal of FNS is a surprising change, as since adding FNS and Jonathan "Jonji" Carey to the lineup back in August, Riot Squad have become a top team in the region; with the team currently sitting at fourth on HLTV's North American rankings. During FNS' tenure with the team, Riot Squad notably qualified to EPL Season 10 Relegation and claimed a second-place finish at ESEA Global Challenge Season 32, a first for any North American team.
Regarding his departure from Riot Squad, FNS told Dust2.us:
I lost faith in the team doing anything past what we've already accomplished, and essentially gave up, and tried to make 3 changes. This led to players aligning against me due to my lack of "caring" for the past month and the organization chose to release me as I asked them to. Made sense for both parties to move forward this way. Making that many changes is way too difficult without people fighting back. Regardless, I'm perfectly fine with this outcome.
A source close to the team tells Dust2.us that two of the players FNS looked to replace were Peter "ptr" Gurney and Jonathan "Jonji" Carey.
With the team set to face off against INTZ in WINNERS League tonight, Dust2.us has learned that Riot Squad will be using Rap Gang member Erick "Xeppaa" Bach as a stand-in.
As a result, Riot Squad are now:
- Peter "ptr" Gurney
- Austin "crashies" Roberts
- Mitch "mitch" Semago
- Jonathan "Jonji" Carey
- Brandon "weber" Weber (Coach)
Outside of WINNERS League, Riot Squad await more details on ESL's plans for relegation, which is still yet to be scheduled. According to a report from Jarek "DeKay" Lewis changes are likely coming to relegation as ESL are reportedly looking to create a single unified 24-team, with the remaining teams sent down to MDL.
