FURIA win every pistol in close 1-2 loss
The Thunderpick World Championship 2023 Europe Series 1 kicked off this evening, with FURIA taking on the Bulgarians from 500 in the round-of-16. FURIA, looking to avenge their poor opening performance at Cologne, had a lot to make up for in this game that they were comfortably favored in.
Starting off on 500's pick of Ancient, it was a map that FURIA were also somewhat capable on, but for 500 it was one of their best. FURIA and 500 went back and forth on the Brazilian's CT-side, but it was Yuri "yuurih" Boian that would really power his team in this game as he would help lead them to a strong 7-8 CT half, and a dominant 9-2 T-side that would secure the map 16-10.
With FURIA taking the advantage onto Inferno, it seemed like the new-look squad would take home a comfortable 2-0 win. This would not be the case as FURIA's T-side looked ineffective against the Bulgarians. Despite winning both pistol, FURIA was unable to string more than two rounds together the entire map as they fell 5-10 on their T-side and then 3-6 on their CT-side to lose their own map pick 16-8.
On the final map of Mirage, FURIA once again saw themselves go down early as their T-side looked weaker than 500's defenses. Despite once again winning each pistol - a perfect 6 for 6 on the match - the team found themselves down 9-6 heading into their CT-side. The Brazilians would show their resolve by tying it up thanks to some close retakes. However, it wouldn't be enough as 500 found space and closed out the match 16-10.
FURIA has been eliminated from the competition and will next play in Gamers8.
