Asuna completes Rap Gang reconnaissance; mada to sit Season 33 out
Last night and less than 24 hours after Recon 5 announced that they would retain the five members of their Advanced Season 32-winning lineup for MDL Season 33, Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk revealed that he has departed the team in order to join Rap Gang.
The announcement came as a surprise to many as the player had made no indication of the move ahead of the reveal, and Rap Gang were last known to be considering Tyson "TenZ" Ngo and former Big Frames player Adam "mada" Pampuch to replace Erick "Xeppaa" Bach.
The former player would have required a buyout from Cloud9, while mada announced on Twitter yesterday that he had decided not to play in the upcoming season and instead focus on playing in hubs.
Asuna's last-minute departure from Recon 5 now leaves the team looking for a new player just ahead of the start of the season, set to get underway on January 13th. Rap Gang, meanwhile, will hope to make a strong debut in the league as they look to improve upon their recent showing in Mythic Cup 5, where they claimed a 2-1 win over Bushido Boyz before a narrow loss to eUnited.
Rap Gang are now:
- Justin "FaNg" Coakley
- Brendan "Bwills" Williams
- Josh "shinobi" Abastado
- Jeff "RZU" Ngo
- Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk
- Jared "MAC-1" Schneider (Coach)
The team now awaits their first matchup of the season, although they will potentially debut in either of the upcoming qualifiers for DreamHack Open Leipzig or DreamHack Open Anaheim.
