Imperial continues Americas struggles
IEM Cologne 2023 has officially kicked off for the Brazilians, with Imperial looking to make a splash with their recent signings of João "felps" Vasconcellos and Henrique "HEN1" Teles in place of Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes. The recent changes have made it exciting to see how the Brazilian squads will be shaping up in this year and there is no better way to do it other than at IEM Cologne.
Nuke was how Imperial and Monte would decide their fate. The grueling BO1 opening match format is always rife with upsets, one that Imperial is hoping for with their new squad. The first half saw Imperial go down 1-4 to start things off, but that was when the Brazilians were able to gather their own momentum as they won seven rounds in a row to make it 8-4. However, Monte turned the tide and brought the half to close at 7-8.
With Imperial now on their CT-side, it would be expected that the Brazilians could close it out. However, Monte were not prepared to let that happen as they stormed ahead with their second-pistol round win and then ran riot on their T-side. The European squad would claim six rounds in a row to start off the second half to take the lead at 13-8 before Imperial were able to respond. The Brazilians finally claimed one round, but it was not enough as they would lose out 16-9.
Imperial now await who they will play in tomorrow's lower bracket round.
