FURIA down and out
FURIA has been one of the most feared teams at the international stage for a while, but at this Major, it was like they were a completely different team. The balls-to-the-walls, rushing-down-your-throat calling style of Andrei "arT" Piovezan is gone and with it has come a much more deliberate approach. Unfortunately for FURIA, it appears that the easiest opponent they faced were the ones right before them. With G2 also surprisingly going down 0-2 on Day 1 of the Legends Stage, they were crushingly matched up.
FURIA have failed to get into any sort of groove at this Major. In their entirety, they have only won eight T-side rounds across four maps, with the eight rounds coming in this match alone. The new style that worked at the RMR so well that it allowed them to skip the Challengers Stage has come undone, with the team scrambling for answers. FURIA has lost and now they must find themselves again.
Inferno was G2's pick, and in it they showed why they were ready to get the game going. They were waiting to take the advantages lain before them, which saw the European squad pick up 11 rounds on their offense, with FURIA scrambling to stay in the game. A second half would not be much better as the Brazilians couldn't keep up and fell 16-8.
Finally, FURIA was able to head to Mirage, a map that they have long preferred and one that G2 has played once in the last three months, and lost. But you wouldn't know it by this game. Despite FURIA getting ahead 4-1, that would be the last T-side round that they would get. G2 somehow strung together 10 rounds in a row to secure a 11-4 half and essentially steamrolling their way to a 2-0 sweep as they won the next half handedly.
FURIA have now been eliminated and if Liquid fail to make it to the playoffs, the Americas will also lose a vital Legends stage spot.
