CLG Red and Able fe claim WESG Closed Qualifier berths
The first female American and Canadian female WESG open qualifiers came to an end today, with CLG Red and Able fe advancing after besting the small number of teams in attendance.
Starting off with the American qualifier, which only had four teams in attendance, CLG Red and Dignitas fe made quick work of their opening matchups, securing 16-7 and 16-5 wins over Royalty and Monopoly respectively. Notably, this is CLG Red's first appearance with Benita "bENITA" Novshadian in place of Catherine "cath" Leroux outside of ESEA Main since the latter player was benched on September 20th.
Continuing on through the upper bracket, CLG Red surprised as they destroyed Dignitas fe on Inferno, taking the map 16-1.
Down in the lower bracket, Royalty sent Monopoly packing with a 16-2 win before their run came to an end as Dignitas fe won 16-3.
In the finals, CLG Red got off to a strong start on Inferno as they won their T-side 12-3 before taking the map 16-8. Moving onto Train, CLG Red kept the pressure up as they won their CT-side 11-4. After switching sides, Dignitas fe continued to falter as CLG Red quickly closed out the series 3-0 with another 16-8 win.
With the first qualifier wrapped, the results look as follows:
1st - CLG Red (di^, Emy, GooseBreeder, refinnej, bENITA) - Advance to Closed Qualifier
2nd - Dignitas fe (rain, artStar, milk, Theia, EMUHLEET) - 12 points
3rd - Royalty (Medicie, Shuume, Laylu, giraffely, lunarkats) - 6 points
4th - Monopoly (lxisha, leesa, nezuko, hem0gl0bin, LittleB00ty) - 3 points
As a reminder the four teams at the end of both open qualifiers with the most points will join CLG Red and the winner of the second open qualifier in the closed qualifier.
Moving onto the Canadian qualifier, it surprisingly had an even worse turnout, with only three teams entering.
The opening matchup saw ANEW take down Able fe 16-7 to meet LiViD fe in the upper bracket finals.
In the upper bracket finals, ANEW continued to perform wellas they crushed LiViD fe to make their way in the finals. In the lower bracket finals, Able fe surprised as they took down LiViD fe 16-3 to set up a rematch against ANEW in the finals.
In the finals, ANEW started off Dust2 with a strong CT-side, winning the half 10-5 without much trouble. However, once the two teams switched sides, Able fe began to claw back the round deficit quickly tying the score up before pushing forward to take the map 16-14. With the series tied up, Able fe conceded the opening half of Inferno 9-6 before coming back to take the map 16-13. Overpass saw ANEW finally take a map with Mirna "athxna" Noureldin putting in a strong performance leading her team to take the map 16-13.
Finally, on Train the series reached its conclusion as Valita "minnieyo" Chailert and co. powered through to take the map 16-12 and secure the series win 3-2.
With the first Canadian qualifier wrapped, the results look as follows:
1st - Able fe (Minnieyo, pinecone, Missperceived, smiLey, Cirrus) - Advance to Closed Qualifier
2nd - ANEW (missharvey, athxna, Bouchard, Naomi, Natty) - 12 points
3rd - LiViD fe (Alexe1337, MF-, Rockette, mawie, meg4n) - 6 points
With the first open qualifiers completed the second will be taking place two weeks from now on October 26th. Following the conclusion of the second open qualifier, the top six teams from each region will face off to determine which two teams will meet in the regional finals.
