Evil Geniuses mix set to represent U.S. at IESF
The team set to represent the United States at this year's IESF (International Esports Federation) competition has been revealed. The roster is set to play versus the Canadian national team for qualification to the 15th World Esports Championship, held in Iași, Romania.
Despite initial mentions in early April by UESF, the United States Esports Federation, of qualifiers set to be run for the CS:GO competition, no qualifiers were ever run and the team was selected by UESF themselves. If this sounds familiar, it's because it is, with the exact same situation occurring at the previous IESF Championship, where UESF opted to send an ESEA Open team as their representatives in Bali.
In a somewhat positive turns of events, the team this year actually features seasoned players who are likely to do damage if they quality to Romania. It is Dust2.us' understanding that the mandate of selecting the team was handed to Nathan "madcow" Retterath, current "Player Manager" for Evil Geniuses, by the USEF committee. The roster was then formed with a majority of Evil Geniuses main roster and Black roster players, and an ATK player.
To the north, the IESF-affiliared federation representing Canada, Esport Canada, were able to organize qualifiers, although with low turnout, and elect a representing team through a final BO3 match played on March 25th. The winning team was an almost complete mix, with just two Strife players having any current team associations.
The two North American squads, as submitted to IESF, set to play online for a single qualification spot to the 2023 World Esports Championship are:
Team USA
-
William "RUSH" Wierzba
-
Ethan "reck" Serrano.
-
Paytyn "junior" Johnson
-
Jeorge "Jeorge" Endicott
-
Michael "Swisher" Schmid
-
Tommy "Axed" Ryan (Coach)
Team Canada
-
David "J0LZ" Jolin
-
Paul "aris" Wilson
-
Walker "walker" Harris
-
Saad "Pluto" Siraj
-
Gabriel "tENSKI" Rodrigue
The BO3 match is currently scheduled for the evening of May 22nd at 07:00PM.
