Imperial eliminate EG Black from BLAST Spring Showdown
Each surviving their first encounter, Imperial with Complexity and EG Black with FURIA, these two teams scrapped for the last remaining slot in the finals. Both teams came off upsets to get here, with EG Black stunning all of the Americas region yesterday by defeating FURIA in a close bo3. But, now, their run comes to an end.
The first map was EG Black's pick of Vertigo. Imperial chose to begin on the CT-side, and utterly shut down Evil Geniuses Black from the very beginning. Despite obtaining many bomb plants, EG Black were not able to convert most of them, only grabbing three measly rounds at the end of the half. EG Black started a resurgence in the second half, but starting the comeback down 3-14 was never going to be an easy task. Imperial eventually closed out Vertigo 16-10, grabbing the lead from round one and never letting go.
Imperial chose Nuke as their map. A strong CT-side spearheaded by Paytyn "junior" Johnson led the way for the North American side to garner 9 rounds at the half. The second half started on Imperial's side, but a few gun rounds swung the momentum back to EG Black. However, Imperial climbed their way back into the game, and tied up the scoreline. The Brazilians did not relent as they won the map 16-14.
Imperial will face paiN in an all-Brazilian derby tomorrow at 03:30PM for a spot at BLAST Spring Finals in Washington D.C.
