Report: Envy look to replace Sonic
Envy are set to part ways with Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek according to a report by Rush B Media. The South African was the most recent addition to the squad, having joined the team at the start of June as an AWPer. His removal will reportedly see Nifty once again pick up the sniper rifle for his side, with Sonic's future left uncertain.
Sonic's short tenure on Envy was marred by a lackluster run of events. Although the team managed to secure qualification to IEM Chicago, they found themselves eliminated in last place from the event following an early loss to Liquid and a narrow defeat to MIBR, with a sick Noah "Nifty" Francis leading to the team fielding their coach Zach "Eley" Stauffer in the latter series.
Envy also failed to qualify for ESL One New York or the StarLadder Major in Berlin, suffering defeats to Lazarus and Singularity in the Americas Minor Closed Qualifier. The team were also unable to top the MSI MGA Closed Qualifier as they were sent packing by a mix-team headed by Joshua "steel" Nissan. Nifty and company's most recent result saw them barely manage to retain their spot in ESL Pro League Season 10, falling to Lazarus and INTZ in Pre-Relegation before narrowly scraping wins over INTZ and ATK in the Relegation phase.
With the reported removal of Sonic, Envy would be left with the following roster:
- Noah "Nifty" Francis
- Jacob "FugLy" Medina
- Sam "s0m" Oh
- Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor
- Zachary "Eley" Stauffer (Coach)
Sonic's replacement is currently unknown, with Envy next set to play in the ECS Season 8 Pinnacle Cup from September 10-15. The team have also received an invite to play in the DreamHack Masters Malmo Closed Qualifier which will run concurrently with the Pinnacle Cup, leaving them little time to finalize a new fifth.
