LIQUID MAKES US DREAM
Liquid was looking strong as they bounced back from a difficult BLAST Premier Spring Groups as they reached the lower-bracket finals of IEM Katowice in Group A. It was unfortunate luck that Liquid were to match up against one of the best teams in the world as they were trying to make their way into the Spodek.
The match started off interestingly as Liquid had opted to begin on the T-side of FaZe's pick of Inferno. Liquid had not won Inferno against FaZe in the last several matchups, and that would continue today, despite Liquid's best efforts.
A strong T-side out of FaZe led the Europeans to a 10-5 half, but Liquid would show a strong CT-side of their own, bringing hope that this could go the American's way. It would not happen, however, as FaZe powered through and were able to get six magical T-side rounds to close out their map.
Liquid then moved to their pick of Overpass, where they immediately showed why they picked that map. The Americans were able to secure nine T-side rounds, despite losing the opening pistol. However, the strong start would not immediately transfer over to the second half as FaZe came roaring back to tie it up at 11. Liquid, taking a timeout, were able to collect themselves and control the rest of the game to a 16-11 victory.
Mirage, the final map, and one that Liquid has beaten FaZe on multiple times since 2022, would prove to immediately be fruitful for the Americans. A dominant and unrelenting T-side would bring 10 rounds in their favor. But Faze would start to come roaring back and take the lead at 13-11.
But Liquid would not be held quiet. With backs against the wall, they would fight back as strong as they could to close out the match 16-13.
