Complexity stumble out of the blocks
Complexity were looking to build upon the success of their victory over ENCE that sent them into the Group Stage of IEM Katowice while Heroic were hoping against suffering an embarrassing upset against another NA team.
The match started off on Complexity's pick of Inferno, where the Americans started off strong on their T-side by winning the pistol and the subsequent rounds. Despite allowing Heroic to come back in the game and take the lead 5-3, the Americans rallied back to take the half 9-6.
With a strong lead and now on the defense, it was looking like Complexity might be able to secure a quick map off one of the best teams in the world. Heroic were not about to let that happen as they would win the pistol, propelling them to a 10-2 half to secure their opponent's map pick 16-11. Heroic can thank several individual performances by their players which seemed to crumble the American's CT side.
Heroic had all the momentum as they went into their map pick of Vertigo, but Complexity started off hot. The American's CT-side was simply unbeatable as they prevented the Danes from getting anything going, walking away with a comfortable 11-4 half to start the map.
There was some cause for concern in the second as despite Complexity making it 15-6, they would lose round after round, making the thought of OT ever so possible. With backs against the way, Complexity were able to power through for one final T-side round to secure Heroic's map pick, 16-13.
The third map would take both sides to Overpass, where the Americans began to an uncomfortable beginning on their T-side. Rasmus "sjuush" Beck could not be stopped as he powered himself to a 22-7 half as Heroic would secure an 11-4 first half on the defense.
Complexity would do their best to reduce the deficit, but unfortunate timings and some misplays would haunt them as they were unable to gain any ground as they lose the map 16-10.
Complexity will now be sent to the lower bracket where they will have to face off against MOUZ.
