Report: FaZe trying to use k0nfig as sub at BLAST Spring
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Dust2.us understands that former Astralis standout Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke is wanted by FaZe as a stand-in for Håvard "rain" Nygaard at BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023.
The potential move is facing scrutiny and raised eyebrows from BLAST and participating teams as Heroic had already registered k0nfig as their own substitute ahead of the roster lock. The necessity of the move is also being questioned as Dust2.us is aware that FaZe registered Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer for the event meaning they are able to field a complete roster without k0nfig.
This news has caused confusion to erupt in Copenhagen as FaZe are set to play in two days time, and the addition of k0nfig to FaZe's roster changes the calculus significantly as teams prep for their matches.
Dust2.us has reached out to BLAST for confirmation on k0nfig's status as a replacement for rain, but have not received an answer at the time of publication. Dust2.us knows that discussions are currently ongoing within the BLAST organization on whether to allow such a move despite the roster lock.
The ongoing deliberations has raised the ire of some teams as Dust2.us understands that at least one team has raised concerns directly towards BLAST for potentially allowing the move in spite of the rulebook disallowing such a last minute change while others have done so privately.
Recently, k0nfig stood in for Heroic at the BLAST World Final in Abu Dhabi. He performed admirably over six maps producing a 1.11 HLTV Rating, 1.23 Impact, and 68.2% KAST. Despite this, Heroic would ultimately go winless and finish in last place at the event.
