Complexity claim second consecutive Cash Cup win
For the second week in a row, Complexity have come out on top in an ESEA Cash Cup, securing the $9,000 grand prize after besting Nouns and Strife in the semifinal and final respectively. Despite their loss to Complexity, Nouns were still able to claim the $2,000 consolidation prize after moving past ATK in the third-place decider.
Complexity's run in the second day of the Cash Cup kicked off with a match against Nouns, a squad presently undefeated in ECL Season 43. Nouns looked to maintain their impressive ECL form on their pick of Inferno, as the squad managed an impressive 9-1 half on the T-side. Despite the gargantuan lead that Nouns had built up, Complexity clawed their way back to only a 6-9 deficit.
This string of rounds was enough to revitalize the squad, as they shut out Nouns for the remainder of the match, powered by Michael "Grim" Wince's 1.96 T-side rating, allowing the team to take their opponent's pick 16-12.
Despite the unfortunate loss on Inferno, Nouns looked to recover on the CT-side of Complexity's pick of Overpass. Nouns were well on their way to accomplishing this with an early four-round lead, Complexity soon responded with a devastating offense. This allowed Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and his men to claim the lead with a 9-6 scoreline. Now thoroughly shut out of the game, there was little Nouns could do as Complexity locked down their pick 16-7.
After moving past Nouns with relative ease, Complexity were now set to face another ECL side, Strife, in their grand final matchup. Strife led early on their pick of Mirage, posting a 6-3 lead on the T-side, but this quickly slipped away as Complexity composed themselves on the defense to snatch the lead 8-7. Strife looked out of their depth at first on the CT-side as Complexity strung together six straight rounds to put them within striking distance of stealing their pick, but the ECL squad managed to put some rounds together to keep Complexity honest. Despite Strife's best efforts, Complexity were able to close out the map 16-11, taking the series to Overpass.
Strife stayed in contention with Complexity for a considerable amount of the first half of Overpass, nearly tying the score 5-6 on the defense. Although Complexity ultimately came out on top on the offense with a 9-6 scoreline, Strife were not out of the match just yet. Strife did not allow Complexity to put together large streaks of rounds, breaking up Complexity's round wins with wins of their own. Unfortunately for Strife, Complexity were able to piece together enough of a lead to take the game, albeit with a belabored 16-12 score.
The final standings for the ESEA Autumn Cash Cup 5 are:
1. Complexity - $9,000
2. Strife - $4,000
3. Nouns - $2,000
4. ATK
Another Cash Cup is set to be played later this week, beginning on December 10th. Those interested in signing up for it can do so here.
