ESL (maybe) announce ESL One New York Closed Qualifier invites
In a now-deleted Tweet and on the event website, ESL announced the invites for the ESL One New York Closed Qualifier. The closed qualifier is set to begin tomorrow and will offer one spot to the main event.
The invited teams are FURIA, Complexity, Cloud9, and Ghost, with FURIA being the highest ranked team among them. Much like the invites to today's IEM Chicago Closed Qualifier, Ghost are present, despite the team having disbanded on June 12th. Josh "steel" Nissan revealed on stream when asked that Masters of Panic, a mix-team that filled Ghost's spot in the IEM Chicago qualifier, will not be playing the qualifier. As for Cloud9, according to Ryan at Rush B Media they will also be missing out on the Closed Qualifier, likely due to the reported upcoming changes to their roster.
Coming from the open qualifier are eUnited, Envy, Lazarus, and oNe. eUnited are the highest ranked team from the open qualifier with the squad currently sitting at 37th in the HLTV rankings. Envy are also a strong contender as they are coming off the back of claiming a spot at IEM Chicago after besting Complexity and New Identity 2-0.
Therefore, the team list for the tomorrow's Closed Qualifier currently looks as follows:
