FURIA roar past BIG
FURIA had a once in a lifetime experience in getting to play a Major playoffs qualification match in front of their home crowd, not just any qualification match either it would mean a flawless run through the Legends stage for the Brazilian side. BIG were a surprise member of the 2-0 category...
FURIA smartly decided to avoid the Germans best map, Dust2, banning it instantly which left BIG to pick Nuke instead. The map started off poorly for FURIA, going three men down early but some overthinking from BIG on their T-side allowed Yuri "yuurih" Santos to pick up four kills and convert the 2v4 situation for the Brazilian team.
FURIA were able to convert the following two low buys but the first gun-round and follow up went to the German side. Pain was really inflicted when Karim "Krimbo" Moussa managed to clutch up a 1v2 for BIG and suddenly FURIA were a round down. There were signs already of how evenly matched these teams would be as FURIA managed to win the eighth to tie the game 4-4.
yuurih has been one of FURIA's most consistent performers and he was showing up when it mattered with him sitting at 14-4 after just nine rounds. The two teams traded rounds once again but with BIG being on the less favored T-side it would be the Germans that would be happier with the score line going into the half.
A 9-6 halftime score was improved upon with a pistol win by the Brazilian team thanks in large part due to FURIA's Legend stage hero André "drop " Abreu grabbing a 2k in Ramp to alleviate the pressure on the post-plant. FURIA converted the following two rounds without much problem and it was up to a six round lead for the Brazilian team going into the first gun round of the second half.
FURIA cleaned up the following low buys and exploited the weak A site hold, over and over again. It was the perfect demonstration of the electrifying aggressive CS that FURIA can produce at their best, and they were doing it in front of their home crowd. They dropped just three rounds on the T-side of Nuke, which wasn't even their map pick and moved into map two with a 16-9 win.
Map two would be Vertigo, long considered a strong point of FURIAs game, and they would prove why securing an easy pistol round and the following two just as easily. The confidence was flowing through the Brazilian side and that is often when Andrei "arT" Piovezan's team is at its most dangerous, it allows them the freedom to play their aggressive playstyle BIG were getting torn apart.
The party was well underway by the eighth round on Vertigo as FURIA danced their way through the BIG defense with a 7-1 scoreline and it was once again yuurih leading the line. FURIA had been abusing BIGs lack of A ramp control and BIG tried to address this moving forward managing to put up their third round.
The ramp was once again an unpluggable leak for the German side though and FURIA reached double digits with the crowd in full voice supporting them into the last rounds of the first half. The Germans failed to get another round as FURIA moved into the second half with a massive 12-3 lead.
BIG won the pistol but as soon as FURIA got guns they managed to show the Germans how it is done, locking down the A ramp with ease. With yuurih and arT both nearing the 20 kill mark FURIA were on the cusp of completing the 3-0 run and it took only two more rounds to send the crowd into a rapturous celebration.
The Brazilians closed out the match 16-6 and secured their spot in the playoffs where they will get to play in front of an even bigger home crowd on the biggest stage of them all. For BIG they will have to fight through another BO3 tomorrow to claim their spot in the playoffs.
