9z send MIBR packing in Barcelona
9z have continued their recent string of strong form from the RMR qualifier, starting their FiReLEAGUE campaign off in Barcelona with a win over MIBR. While the win was somewhat labored, the Argentine overcame Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian and co. in a 2-1 victory to set up a confrontation with Spirit.
The series started off on 9z's map pick of Dust2, with MIBR claiming an unremarkable 9-6 lead on their CT-side after winning the opening pistol. 9z were quick to close this deficit as they won their own CT-side pistol round before putting up a nearly perfect CT-side to win Dust2 16-11, with the Brazilians only planting the bomb four times.
Moving onto MIBR's map pick of Ancient, the Brazilians won the opening pistol round on their T-side before going on to win the next four rounds. Unfortunately for them, 9z took control for the remainder of the half, winning nine out of the next ten rounds to win the half 9-6. The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side being able to take control before the end of regulation, forcing overtime. In overtime, MIBR finally found their footing, winning Ancient 19-16 to force a third map.
Inferno ended up being completely dominant for 9z, as they won their CT-side 12-3 before the map outright with a 16-5 win. Over the course of the series, 9z's Chilean player David "dav1deuS" Tapia Maldonado was the team's best performer, ending the series with a 1.26 rating.
9z will try to continue their winning ways against Spirit tomorrow at 11:00AM
