Strife and BHOP break NA ECL record
ESL Challenger League history was broken last night when Strife and BHOP collided in a 77-round war on everyone’s favorite map.
It wasn’t looking favorable for Strife initially, as BHOP kicked their opponents map pick off up 8-0 on the CT-side. Strife rallied back to bring it to 5-10, but they still have lots of work to do to avoid a third map.
Strife kicked it into gear in their defensive efforts, ripping off a streak of seven to take the lead at 14-13. In dramatic fashion, BHOP managed two of the three rounds to avoid blowing the first half lead and send it to overtime.
The first two OTs saw BHOP claim a 2-1 lead at the swap, but they were unable to seal it either time. The emotional rollercoaster continued for five other OTs, with both teams rotating blown opportunities to close the match. On the eighth attempt, Strife found a little bit more in the tank to seal OT and win the historic match.
The 77-round affair narrowly broke the 76-round record previously set by Recon 5 and Levitate. The two went to war inside the trenches of ESEA Premier S36, with Recon 5 seeing victory in that affair.
The win puts Strife at a 2-2 record in ECL, placing them fourth within Group B. As for BHOP, the tough loss brings them down to sixth with a 1-3 record. Strife looks to build off the win later tonight against Nouns. As for BHOP, they’ll have a couple days off to shed the loss before their match against ATK.
