timbermen chop down Brazen in EGL Premier Season 3 final

The wood-cutters didn't lose a single map in the whole tournament.

The tournament which started on July 12th had some household names from the North American Tier 2 scene. Unjustified, Vireo.pro, Electrifying Steel, Brazen, and timbermen were the most notable teams. Unjustified and Electrifying Steel were eliminated by Brazen in the round of 16 and the semifinals, respectively. Vireo.pro were also knocked out in the round of 16 but in this case by the Umar "Umar" Qaiser-led roster.

timbermen faced close to no opposition during their journey to the final. The team didn't drop any maps during the whole tournament and almost all of them ended with a single-digit number of rounds lost. The roster has been impressive, having won the last two tournaments they entered in an close to perfection fashion.

Brazen had been looking to get some confidence back after finishing third in the first open qualifier for the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR, meaning they have to try again in the next iteration. The squad has seen some new additions recently with Marco "Pol0" Hernandez and Gage "Infinite" Green joining. Despite the recent losses while being so close to winning, things have been looking good for Brazen.

The grand final veto saw Brazen picking Mirage, timbermen picking Overpass, and the map left as the decider was Inferno.

Despite winning the CT-side pistol round, timbermen were letting Brazen run their offense freely during the first half, with Pol0 and Infinite being the heavy-lifters for the "home" team. The half ended with a 10-5 scoreline, even though it was 8-1 in favor of Brazen at one point. The second half score mirrored the first. This time, timbermen were able to capitalize after winning the pistol round and immediately brought the scoreline to 10-8. The wood-cutters, as a whole, came together and managed to tie the game after being down 15-14, sending the map to overtime. In OT, Brazen was nowhere to be found after winning the first round. timbermen took map one with a 19-16 scoreline.

The second map was Overpass, picked by timbermen, and it was a swift one with the Brazen squad surely wanting to forget their CT-side performance. The first half ended with a 13-2 score, with timbermen showing why this was their pick. The game ended after four rounds in the second half. 16-3 was the result and timbermen were crowned the champions of EGL Premier Season 3, winning $3,000.

It was, but everyone in the scene has basically said that these kids have learned from their mistake and haven't done anything similar to what they did before. It's an impressive growth and we should allow young kids to learn from their mistakes.
