Brazil represented in ESL Challenger Melbourne closed qualifier
The second and final ESL Challenger Melbourne open qualifier has drawn to a close, seeing Brazilian side, oNe, take down BHOP in the grand final to book their spot in the North American closed qualifier.
This result is especially disheartening for the new-look BHOP who have now reached the final of each of the two open qualifiers, falling in relatively close three-map series both times.
While much of the bracket went by without any hiccups, one notable deviation from this was Unjustified — who are set to fight through ECL Season 41 Relegation — being taken down in the third round by ESEA Advanced side, Peeker's Advantage.
The first semifinal of the open qualifier saw oNe go up against Peeker's Advantage, with the Brazilian squad blowing their foes out of the water to post an overpowering 16-3 victory and move forward into the grand final. On the other side of the bracket, BHOP had to work a bit harder for their victory as they allowed Northern Forces to reach double digits before eventually closing out the map 16-10.
In the grand final, oNe started off on the right foot by managing to take their map pick of Mirage 16-13 to lead in the series. This didn't stop BHOP from answering right back by snagging their own choice of Vertigo with a more comfortable 16-11 scoreline. Level pegging, the two teams then paid a trip to Inferno for the decider where the Brazilians managed to just squeak ahead, winning the final map with another 16-13 score to book their spot in the closed qualifier.
The team list for the ESL Challenger Melbourne closed qualifier is:
ATK
Gaimin Gladiators
Evil Geniuses (EG.PA)
oNe
The closed qualifier for ESL Challenger Melbourne is set to get started in a couple of days' time and will run from July 13th–July 14th. The winner of the four-team event will book their spot in ESL Challenger Melbourne itself, a $100,000 event kicking off on September 2nd.
