GEX DC Area Esports to host NCS Minor
GEX DC Area Esports have announced their next stop in the N3rd St Gamers' backed National Championship Series. The NCS Minor - GEX CSGO Showcase is set to take place between April 27th-28th, with up to $4,800 on offer.
The format for the tournament will start off with a group stage, with four teams per group in a best-of-one double elimination bracket. Each group will see two teams leave the group stage, with the team from the upper bracket heading straight to the playoffs, and the lower bracket winner heading to a best-of-one double elimination decider bracket.
The top two teams from the decider bracket will head to the playoffs, which will feature eight teams in a best-of-three single elimination bracket for the quarter and semifinals. The final will be in a best-of-five
The tournament will allow for up to 24 teams, at which point the maximum $4,800 prize pool will be reached. Underneath that, every team that signs up will add $200 from their entry fee to the prize pool. At time of writing, the entry fee to the tournament is $300 per team, but will rise to $325 on April 7th, and rise again to $350 on April 21st. As such, the prize split is as follows:
- Below 12 teams: 1st 100%
- 12-16 teams: 1st 70% / 2nd 30%
- 17-24 teams: 1st 65% / 2nd 25% / 3rd 10%
This is GEX DC Area Esports' second Showcase event this year. The previous one, held in January at the NCS Academy tier, saw Holo, headed up by Kevin "4pack" Przypasniak, take home the $2,240 top prize.
The tournament will see support from Computer Upgrade King, with the company providing all the set-ups so players just need to turn up with their peripherals. The tournament will be casted by locals Mike "DarfMike" Winnick and streamer Jenn "JeNneSis" D. The event will be held at 9261 Plaskett Lane, Lower Level, Lorton, Virginia.
The NCS Minor - GEX CSGO Showcase will be the second NCS Minor this month, taking place a week after Underwatch's event in Boston, between April 20th-21st. More information on the NCS Minor - GEX CSGO Showcase, including the full schedule, can be found on the tournament website.
