Imperial facing elimination after loss to G2
The round two affairs between Imperial and G2 was neck and neck throughout, but after failing to close out the upset, the Brazilians are staring down the barrel of elimination as they enter round three with an 0-2 record. After losing the round one game 11-16 to BIG on Nuke, Imperial was thrown to the wolves against G2, who was thrust into the 0-1 game after a nailbiter loss to NAVI on Mirage.
Imperial started off on the wrong foot on Mirage after losing pistol and subsequently starting the game down 1-6. With the game already starting to slip away, the Brazilians found themselves and ripped off six of their own on the T side to swing the game back in their favor at 7-6. On the brink of securing the first half, G2 came through with two rounds of their own to take the first half 8-7.
The second half was as tight as the first, with the two teams splitting the first six rounds to set the score at 11-10 in favor of G2. After the split, Imperial appeared to gain momentum with two rounds of their round to take back the lead at 12-11. This effort would prove to be the last example of impact Imperial would offer for the rest of the game on the CT side, as G2 turned it up to another level in the eleventh hour of the match to go on a five-round run to win Mirage 16-12 and put themselves at a 1-1 record.
As for Imperial, they join Liquid at the bottom of the standings with an 0-2 record. With the two teams looking at an early exit in the Legends Stage, fans clamor in the hopes that both teams can replicate Liquid's Challengers Stage run where they completed the reverse sweep from 0-2 to qualify 3-2.
The conclusion of Cloud9 and NIP will determine the round three matchups for the teams. A Cloud9 win would mean Liquid plays Bad News Eagles and Imperial faces Vitality. A NIP victory would mean Liquid and Imperial swap opponents.
