CLG Red and Please Send Help top ESL Impact League Season 1 in North America
After a hard-fought debut season of ESL Impact, CLG Red and Please Send Help beat their respective opponents inside the four-team playoff bracket to earn the two spots to the ESL Impact League finals coming in June. Both teams made it to the playoffs through Group A competition, with both besting their Group B opposition in the semifinals.
Please Send Help qualified for the playoffs after only dropping two of the six matches inside the regular season, both to the undefeated CLG Red. Despite the solid record, they were faced against The Little Bocks, a team coming into the playoffs with a 5-1 record with five straight wins. The two were neck-and-neck through 30 rounds of Overpass. When it came to overtime, Please Send Help ran away with their map pick to claim the first map.
The two were just as competitive on The Little Bocks’ pick of Inferno, with the map going all the way to the final round in regulation. The Little Bocks grinded Please Send Help to claim the 30th round and take it to map three, Mirage. After losing Inferno, Please Send Help answered the call in response, outperforming their opponents on both sides of the server to win the map 16-9 and the series 2-1.
CLG Red’s story is not quite as dramatic, dominating their opponents all season long en-route to an undefeated season. Not once did CLG Red allow their opponent double-digits on a map during the season. Shutouts were not uncommon for the team either, as they won a map 16-0 on five different occasions in their group.
When it came time to face the 5-1 Slay, it was business as usual. CLG Red barely let their opponents get comfortable before winning map one, dominating Slay’s map pick of Inferno. Although Slay fought a slightly tighter battle on Mirage, CLG Red had no issue taking them out on their map pick, 16-6.
