Third ECS Season 7 Challenger Cup qualifier sees Ghost debut without steel
The third ECS Season 7 Challenger Cup qualifier has begun, with eight teams reaching the quarterfinal stage of the tournament bracket. Of these names, the most notable is Ghost, who debuted with Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik in place of Joshua "steel" Nissan in the lineup amid rumors that the in-game leader may be on his way out of the team.
This qualifier did just one team better than the previous with a total of 69 rosters signing up to play, including qualifier 2 participants The Quest, Hysteria, and Farmers. The first two teams were able to make their way to the quarterfinals, but Farmers were halted by PolarAce in the Round of 32 and eliminated from the running.
Hysteria picked up the most notable upset of the bracket thus far, eliminating Infamous 16-14 on Inferno in the Round of 16 to secure their spot in the top eight, while Ghost narrowly survived a 16-14 scare of their own against Mario. The qualifier also saw the return of Tom "tconnors" Connors, who joined up alongside Jimmy "Nurfed" McFadden on Big Frames to earn their own quarterfinals berth.
The best-of-three quarterfinal games have now been determined, and look as follows:
Ghost | -vs- | iNTACT |
Kobruh | -vs- | Big Frames |
The Quest | -vs- | JAGUAR |
Hysteria | -vs- | Orion |
These matches are all scheduled to take place tomorrow at 2 PM EST, with the semifinals kicking off shortly afterwards around 5 PM EST. The teams who win at the semifinal stage will join MASSIVEimpact, Zone, Mythic, and Party Astronauts in the Challenger Cup. As always, the dates and signup links for upcoming qualifiers can be found on the Dust2.us Calendar.
