Round 2 of CEVO Lower Bracket playoff results are in
Samurai vs Beacon (Forfeit by Beacon)
With the sudden disbanding of Beacon eSports, the team forfeitted their remaining CEVO matches as they no longer have a complete starting roster.
FRENCH CANADIANS vs ex-Naventic (2-1)
The two teams fought across three maps to maintain their spot in the CEVO Main playoffs. Beginning on Cobblestone, ex-Naventic took the lead with four straight rounds to start. FRENCH CANADIANS were able to recover and tightened their defense, bringing it to a 9-6 half in their favor. Their opposition had an equally good CT-side as ex-Naventic bought it to overtime and won out in a close 19-17 finish.
Cache began much the same. ex-Naventic took an early lead with the first three rounds but couldn't manage to break the CT economy after the fact. Only dropping a single round after the first full buy, FRENCH CANADIANS took a dominant 11-4 lead at the half. After swapping sides, ex-Naventic put up a modest fight but the round deficit was too much to overcome, and the Canadian squad took the map 16-8.
Going into Train, both teams had their playoff lives on the line. ex-Naventic took a strong early lead by only dropping one round on their CT-side before their Canadian foes woke up and closed out the half 10-5. With an equally lacking Terrorist offense, ex-Naventic allowed FRENCH CANADIANS to get back in the game and bring it to another overtime. Ultimately the men of the North ended the map 19-16 and the series 2-1.
Team Hyper vs Gorilla Core (2-1)
The series between the Americans and Brazilians began on Inferno, where Gorilla Core took a decisive lead of 5-0 on the CT-side. Once composed, Gorilla Core couldn't manage to withstand the onslaught of fast plays from Hyper and only gained an additional round once the momentum had shifted, ending the half 9-6 for Hyper. After swapping sides, both teams seemed to mirror the other as it was now Hyper on their backfoot, struggling to maintain control on their defense. In four very close rounds to end it, the American team closed it out 16-14.
Hyper kicked things off with an early 3-0 lead on Mirage before their economy was disrupted on the first gun round. The middle of the half was a back and forth of Gorilla Core trying to steal the defenses momentum before they got the foothold they were looking for. Hyper took the half 8-7. Try as they might, Hyper couldn't find a chink in the Brazilians armored defense which led to them dropping the map 16-9 for Gorilla Core.
The decider of the series was held on Nuke. As would be expected, Hyper had a favorable time on their CT-side, as they racked up a bulky seven rounds before the Brazilians could get one on the board. Their defense started to crumble towards the end of the half before they finally recovered, bringing it to 10-5 before switching sides. With an offense on par with their defense Hyper ran away with the rest of the game and series 16-6.
Good People vs TempoStorm SE (2-1)
Map one began on Cache, Tempo Storm's pick. Their confidence in their map choice was mirrored by their first half performance as they took the first six consecutive rounds on their T-offense. Good People struggled to keep pace, only being able to take a four rounds before the half ended 11-4. Thoroughly prepared for this pick, TempoStorm all but controlled the game on the CT-side after a bumpy start, closing out the map 16-6.
Inferno began Good People's slow crawl back into the series. With a combination of stellar setups and expert marksmanship they set the pace in the first half, winning 8 rounds of 10 before Tempo Storm could solidify a comparable defense. The half ended 9-6 for Good People, a better than expected round count going into their CT-side. Despite winning the pistol, Tempo Storm lost control of the early game after an anti-eco that translated to two additional rounds for the Americans. It was a tit-for-tat affair until the maps end, 16-13 for Good People.
Subbing in Jake "kaboose" McDonald for Jasper "sfX" Ko after less-than-desirable results across the first two maps, Good People looked to close out the series firmly on Overpass. It was all but a massacre as kaboose racked up his body count with no remorse. Only able to gather a meek four rounds scattered throughout, Good People took a very dominant 11-4 lead going into their CT-side. It looked like the beginning of a possible comeback for Tempo Storm as they picked up the pistol and subsequent round, but a forcebuy was all Good People needed to get back in the game. kaboose and co. won out 16-6 and took the series 2-1.
Continuing on through the playoffs, the third round of the Upper and Lower brackets will be played out later today as the eight remaining teams look to crown themselves as the Season 13 champions.
