Sharks out of water, Wild favorites remain in Americas Minor South America closed qualifier
The first day of the Americas Minor South America closed qualifier has come to an end, seeing one of the invited teams, Sharks, eliminated from the running alongside W7M, YeaH! and Rejected.
INTZ and Imperial worked their way through opposite ends of the upper bracket, the Brazilian ESL Pro League team demolishing both Rejected and Isurus 2-0 to earn their berth in the upper bracket finals. Gustavo "SHOOWTIME" Gonçalves's new-look Imperial lineup also progressed through their opponents with little difficulty, 2-0ing both YeaH! and Sharks with only a single map going over a 16-5 scoreline. The two teams will face off tomorrow at 9 AM EST to determine which of them can be the first to earn a ticket to the Americas Minor.
The lower bracket saw YeaH! become the first team to be eliminated after they were reverse-swept by W7M. After narrowly edging out Train 16-13 by coming back from an 8-0 deficit, YeaH! were unable to maintain their momentum going into the second map. After taking a 5-0 lead on Inferno, YeaH! were only able to garner one additional round in the map before W7M took the win 16-6. W7M took control heading into Mirage, putting up 11 rounds on their CT side before closing out the series with a 16-8 win.
W7M's run was put to an end by the Argentinians of Isurus, who took down the Brazilian squad 2-0 with a 16-11 win on Inferno and a 16-9 victory on Overpass.
On the opposite side of the lower bracket, Rejected became the second team to be eliminated for the qualifier after falling 1-2 to Wild. Despite losing the first map of Cache 16-8 after Rejected put up an 11-4 CT half, Wild immediately replied back with an 11-4 T half of their own on Dust2 before quickly closing out the map 16-6. Their good form continued onto Mirage, where a 10-5 CT half on Mirage allowed for a swift 16-9 finish.
The second round of the lower bracket saw Wild eliminate the invited side of Sharks, defeating their countrymen 2-0 on Inferno and Mirage. Things may have initially seemed grim for Wild as Sharks put up an opening 10-5 CT half on Inferno, but a complete lockout by Wild allowed them to close out the map 16-10 with a flawless run on their own CT side.
Wild's solid CT side form continued onto Mirage, where they were able to put up a 10-5 half on their own. Unlike Sharks, they did secure T sides in the second half of the map, granting their opponents only four rounds before closing out the map 16-9.
Wild are the only remaining team that did not receive an invite to the closed qualifier, and are set to go up against the invited side of Isurus in the lower bracket final tomorrow at 9 AM EST.
