Luminosity send Envy packing from DreamHack Open Atlanta
Starting off the second day of DreamHack Atlanta, the elimination round of Group A featured Luminosity booting out the struggling Envy roster with a quick 2-0 sweep.
Of the three map series, Envy decided on taking Dust 2 as their map pick against the Brazilians, while banning out Cache, a map they play more often. The first half would only go Envy's way a handful of times due to heroics from Taylor "Drone" Johnson and Stephen "reltuC" Cutler, the former snagging a deagle 3k on an eco after a successful bomb plant, and a 4k from the latter to close out the half 10-5 in favor of LG.
After losing the pistol round, Luminosity bounced back taking the next five rounds to push the game to map point. Mimicking their opponent, Envy put up a similar five rounds to close the lead, but LG ultimately closed out the game 16-11.
Luminosity picking Overpass for the second map didn't bode well for Envy, considering the team hadn't played the map at all in the past three months, but luckily, the Americans were able to take the first two rounds. The 2-0 lead to their CT-side wouldn't amount to much as Luminosity would take the next five for themselves. Through a small back and forth, LG closed out the first half with another 10-5 lead.
Putting up less of a fight than they did on Dust 2, Envy would lose the next five rounds again, putting them on the brink of elimination. With only a single round win to scrounge up for Envy, Lucas "steel" Lopes and his crew closed the map 16-6, and the series 2-0.
The matchup to follow will see the Group B elimination match between Vitality and the Kevin "HS" Tarn version of Fragsters scheduled for 12:30 PM EST.
